The Backerei & Coffee Shop is a longtime downtown New Ulm bakery whose recipes reach back to the 1930s. After earlier chapters as Diamond Jim’s, Rose’s, and Dave’s Bakery, it took its present name in 1994. Craig and Amanda Hacker have owned the shop since July 2019, keeping classic Tillman-era formulas while expanding donuts, breads, buns, breakfast sandwiches, and espresso drinks.Located at 27 South Minnesota Street, the bakery serves retail customers and a regional wholesale route across south-central Minnesota. Marble rye, raised and cake donuts, and other scratch goods come out of the overnight bake for morning guests Tuesday through Saturday.
