The German Society of Maryland, founded in 1783, preserves and promotes German heritage, language, and traditions in Maryland through educational, social, and benevolent programs. Originally organized to aid German immigrants arriving in the state, the Society today builds unity in the German-American community with scholarships, high school awards, cultural events, and an annual business meeting.Membership is open to anyone interested in Maryland’s German heritage. The Society publishes newsletters, maintains a calendar of events, and partners with historic sites and festivals across the state from its base serving the greater Ellicott City and Baltimore region.
