Plehn’s Bakery is a century-old Louisville bakery in St. Matthews, founded by German immigrant Kuno Plehn of Kiel. The bakery first opened in 1922 on Shelby Street and moved to its current Shelbyville Road location in 1924, later adding an ice cream works that still serves homemade ice cream alongside cakes, pastries, breads, and deli items.Still family-owned after four generations, Plehn’s remains a neighborhood landmark for birthday and wedding cakes, classic bakery cases, catering, and made-from-scratch treats. The shop is closed Mondays and open Tuesday through Sunday with early morning hours for coffee and baked goods.
